Craft 6: AI Assistant

Ask AI is a new feature in Craft 6 that's available on every control panel screen, from the sparkle menu or the command palette. It runs on the providers you set up in AI Connections, acts as the signed-in user, and works beside the entry you're editing.

Ask AI is a new feature in Craft 6 that’s available on every control panel screen, from the sparkle menu or the command palette. It runs on the providers you set up in AI Connections, acts as the signed-in user, and works beside the entry you’re editing.

In this video, I use the assistant on a real estate site and cover:

  • Rewriting a listing and an entry summary, then applying the changes to the entry
  • Choosing the provider and model for the assistant in AI Connections
  • How the assistant respects the signed-in user’s permissions, so a content author can only do what a content author can do
  • Personal guidance on your user account, and site-wide guidance for the assistant and MCP clients
  • Skills, like an audience skill for content writing, called with a slash command
  • Adding elements and fields as context, and asking questions about the site’s content

One important detail: Apply is not Save. Apply puts the change in the editor and leaves the entry with unsaved changes. You still save or publish the entry, or send it into review if you have a workflow defined.

The assistant uses the same tools as the Craft MCP server, and it never bypasses the permissions already set in Craft.
