Craft 6 includes a built-in MCP server, and it’s been backported to Craft 5.12. MCP gives AI tools like Claude Code a standard way to discover and call capabilities that Craft exposes. These are tools for reading and writing entries, managing drafts, creating sections and fields, and more.
In this video, I connect Claude Code to a Craft site through the authenticated MCP server and put it to work:
The MCP server uses real Craft user accounts, so the AI can only do what that user is allowed to do. Craft stays the source of truth. Validation, workflow rules, and approvals all still apply, and every change is recorded in the activity history, just like work done in the control panel.
None of this was impossible before. Developers have been pointing AI tools at project config and databases and letting them infer how a site works. What’s different is that the AI now works through first-party, supported tools, so the results are predictable and consistent every time.
