In this excerpt from the CraftQuest on Call livestream, Ryan demos the most important new features in the Craft 5.5 release.
Here are the feature he covers:
From the changelog:
When saving a nested element within a Matrix/Addresses field in card view, the changes are now saved to a draft of the owner element, rather than published immediately.
This addresses a feature request that came in even before the Craft 5 release in Spring 2025. Previously, the nested elements would be saved and published automatically upon creation.
A new action creates a shortcut for removing and then adding an element. Do note that the element is removed first, so if you cancel out of the action, the element will already be removed (as part of the draft).
This new field offer a slider UI and some default settings for low end, high end and increments. This was created as part of the new wp-import tool to have feature parity with the WordPress Advanced Custom Field plugin.
In addition to the options you set when you define the field, the author also add additional options adhoc when creating an element. This was created as part of the new wp-import tool to have feature parity with the WordPress Advanced Custom Field plugin.
This another frequent feature request for the Link field, which was introduced with Craft 5. This changes adds in a Label field and a “Open in new tab” option to the Link field. You can use this instead of creating a plain text field for the link label.
Now you can add any attribute from the element into your card reviews. A new checkbox list is available with all of the attributes available.
From the changelog:
It’s now possible to include element attributes in card views, alongside custom fields, via new “Card Attributes” configurators.
This change adds a layout UI element type that allows you to put Markdown into it and place it anywhere in a field layout. You can set it to be inline in the field layout or in a panel.
This change moves the setting for making an entry type title field required from a lightswitch field to a contextual menu on the field itself.
Set your default view mode for element sources to the table view or card view via a setting toggle.
